Questions & Answers with Brian Irvine

Below are questions and answers asked by Red Army 12 members.

What was going through your mind in the penalty shoot out against Celtic in the scottish cup final 1990 as it was getting closer and closer to your turn?

As it got closer got more and more nervous but very excited at the prospect of hitting a penalty.

Brian, what do you think of the current atmosphere at Pittodrie and what do you think could be done to help improve it?

I think it's good but good performances on the park would help make it better.

What was it like returning to Pittodrie as a Dundee player?

I never wanted to leave Pittodrie so to come back and play against Aberdeen was very difficult.

Who is the best player you've ever played with? Or against?

(with) Alex McLeish (against) Roberto Baggio

St Johnstone 5 Aberdeen 0 - what the hell happened?

As a team we collectively had a terrible day nobody performed. My reason for shocking display. Lack of sleep that week as 1st baby was born!

What do you think of the current side?

So far season 10-11 the signs are very promising.

Which Scottish team do you dislike the most and why?

Now no dislikes, but when I played I always got bad reception at Easter Road and Fir Park

Do you think summer football would improve the quality of Scottish football as a whole for both players and punters?

I think it would improve football quality on and off the park. Freezing cold days watching games is not very pleasant. Tradition rules though.

What was it like following a partnership like Miller and McLeish?

As players impossible to improve on. It was a great partnership I was priveledged to learn from.

What did you think of your equine nickname in the Northern Light?

I had good laugh at it like most fans I'm sure did.

Should Alex Smith have got the sack?

No but decisions are made and we have to live with it, but undoubtably it was the wrong decision.

What is your most memorable match for Aberdeen and Scotland, and why?

Aberdeen: Scottish cup final 1990 scoring the winning penalty. Hard to beat that occasion! Scotland: playing against Italy in the Olympic Stadium in front of 70000 in World Cup Qualifier. It was a great experience to play in that game.

What is the most enjoyable goal scored and worst conceded?

Any goal conceded was bad! My own worse critic and was hard on myself at goals we lost. I had a couple of own goals and deflections that hurt.
